I’ve started turning The Hoopskirt Job into a podcast! One of the reasons I wanted to do this is to make the story more accessible to those who have difficulty reading. But also, it seemed like a fun way to give the story more reach. The podcast is available on a number of platforms, listed and linked below.
I’ve never podcasted before, and it’s been a long time since my community and student theater and film days. While I do have some nice software, this is me and my gaming headset doing it in one take because I’m trying to get the hang of it, learn the tools, etc. It’s fun, though, I’m enjoying it. Even when I record the whole thing and then discover my computer wasn’t reading the mic and I have to record the whole thing again.
Reading sections aloud to oneself is actually an editing technique, and sometimes I remember to do it. I’m sure you’ll be able to tell which episodes I read aloud to myself before posting and which episodes I didn’t! At this point, I’m literally just reading the episodes as posted. I’m not making edits or posting them in large chunks. A big part of me wants to, but I think the scope would quickly get too big for me to actually do the podcast while writing and editing the other stories.
