Fire Horse

I have a new design up on Redbubble. Christmas week I just had a hankering to draw a horse–my favorite kind of horse to draw, the Arabian.

Arabians and their daughter breed, the Thoroughbred, are high energy horses–often referred to as “hot” or more poetically “fiery.”

There is a half Thoroughbred horse where I ride who I will probably always refer to as a colt–because he acts like one. Always active and getting into trouble, he has a deep desire to work, to run,  to do stuff, and be the center of attention.  He is not afraid of much, but he’ll spook at imaginary things for an excuse to gallop across his pasture. Then he’ll prance, stamping and rearing just because he can. Last week he was plucking the fence like a guitar.

Some horses are made of fire.

Tees for book fans

Remember this post? No, I didn’t make Zare shirts–not yet (too soon?).

BUT…I finally made a tee shirt for the Attolia books!

This is not the first tee shirt I’ve designed–college fencing club for the win!–but it’s the first one I’ve done by myself. Wow, digital clean up is a bear. attoliateeshirtmodel

But the end result is worth it.

After a little searching around, I decided to join the Redbubble community for this project. I have no interest in dealing with production or fulfillment myself, and Redbubble handles all of that. I’ve also bought from them several times and really love their products.

Redbubble always has a Black Friday deal, you should head over there and get your one-of-a-kind fan art.

By the way…it’s not just t-shirts. Home decor, bags, iphone and android skins…even stickers.

Right now, mine is the only art for Attolia. I don’t really see that changing…but I would like to do more Attolia art so you have options. And more art in general.

I have plans and nearly-finished projects just waiting to go up!

Day Dreaming

I had this idea the other day…Zare Caspian t-shirts. One friend got excited, another looked at me like I was crazy. I know, I know…it’s not Star Wars or a movie or part of internet pop culture like Looking For Group or XKCD (yet). But this is the age of fandoms, and wearing your geekery proudly. I have a collection of geeky t shirts that just make me happy.

But what books have t-shirts? Would anyone even wear a book based t-shirt? I think so. If someone had given me a Misty of Chincoteague t-shirt when I was 12 I would have worn it into the ground and asked for another.

Pride & Prejudice has t-shirts. So does Percy Jackson. (Granted, Percy Jackson has a movie, also, and so does P&P, but they are books first and foremost, more than even LotR at this point, in culture’s eyes).

As it turns out, there are plenty of books that have t-shirts. Best sellers and required reading, but still.

Then I got to thinking…what book would I wear a t-shirt for? Possibly Pride&Prejudice. Or Destination Unknown by Agatha Christie. If I found a cool Beowulf t-shirt I might wear that. As much as I like The Hunger Games, I wouldn’t wear a Hunger Games t-shirt just on principle (merchandising seems to fly in the face of the books, doesn’t it?).

The Attolia Books. Definitely the Attolia Books. In fact, why aren’t there any of these? Google reveals only a handful of sad little Cafe Press designs. I wonder if I could design one.

The Thief, book 1

Basically, if there was a cool t-shirt for a book that I loved, and it was a reasonable price, there is a good chance I’d buy it.

Couldn’t hurt to tamper around with Zare Caspian design ideas. Maybe, if nothing else, I’ll make myself a cool t-shirt to wear. Maybe someone else will want one, too.
