I don’t properly know what character this might be. Not Zare, I think. Perhaps A’rora, who you have not met. Yet.
This piece isn’t finished. I’m not satisfied with Quill’s face (men are hard to draw!) and haven’t determined what weapon is in his left hand. But I like how it’s coming so far.

Learning landscapes is all about shadow and light, no matter what medium you’re working in. As a kid, I favored acrylics, but now I’m learning about watercolors. Watercolors are outside my comfort zone, but they are fun and I am really enjoying playing with them.
I tend to get bogged down in details, at the same time that I get bored or frustrated with them. Watercolors are forcing me to focus on shadow and light, what is really there vs what I think I see. Watercolors are also forcing me to let go a bit, and let the picture tell its own story.
I have already taught my mind to back off and let the story tell itself (especially when revising, you probably need to spell out much less than you think you do when you’re trying to nail a scene down in your head). Now I’m learning to apply that to art.

Clothes are hard to draw. I need to practice more.

Late Spring/early Summer is apparently a rough time on my writing! IÂ apologize for the interrupted posting. It’s when all the travel wraps up that I tumble flat on my creative face and find that coloring books are about all I can manage. That and practicing my penmanship.
I promise I’m working on the story, too.
I even drew a little from scratch this week.
I knew from researching drawing programs for my tablet that there are quite a few for smartphones. Â Some people text, do social media or flash games-i’m over here like “Look! It behaves like paper!”
P.S. drawing with your fingertips is hard!

Snapped a picture of my current project–a little tribute to fox hunting, which is a big deal where I live. Before you panic, they don’t actually catch the fox these days. At least not the club I’ve been out with. These hounds don’t even know what they are chasing, but they do love to chase.
Why do people fox hunt? Because following a pack of hounds hot on a scent over hill and dale, finding a trail wherever they take you, is loads of fun. It’s also kinda crazy and dangerous, because excitement and obstacles and stuff. Truly, though, I feel plenty safe when we’re cantering down a narrow trail. It’s the standing around waiting for the hounds to find something–that’s the part I don’t like! Maybe because my mount hates waiting and starts creating entertainment after 5 minutes.
One of these days I will think to put down the background before starting on the fun stuff in the foreground. But it is not this day.
